Infertility after abortion is real. I have personally known two women (both nurses married to doctors) who became infertile after abortions in their early 20s. Both women developed an immune reaction to the embryos, causing early miscarriages. One ended up with two kids via donor eggs/IVF, one was able to overcome the immune reaction with a daily aspirin.

It's not just that IVF costs are high and the money could be better spent encouraging younger, poorer couples to have kids. It is also the case that with government subsidies, IFV costs would soar. What is really motivating this subsidy is a cynical vote-buying political calculation, as I explained in an article I wrote about this back when Trump first brought up IVF subsidies in his campaign ( https://mises.org/mises-wire/trump-campaign-tries-buy-votes-subsidizing-ivf ). Ultimately, wrecking the economy for political gain is not something that will promote investments in child-bearing and child-rearing over the long run.
