Another excellent piece in response to my essay in American Mind, "Technocracy and Totalitarianism," written by my colleague at the Ethics & Public Policy Center.
I appreciate Milosz's frogs. Reminds me of Whittaker Chambers' "One night I heard screams." The frogs, the screams are undeniably present, but the moment of revulsion is a turning point, a window, as you say.
I'm troubled that our new communism has the technology to measure our "revulsion titers." They somehow can't measure injury and death, but do know when to back off to keep a base of submissives. The base have tasted the lockdowns and won't resist the next round. They would put us in cages and let us starve.
My wife and I are wondering if they'll let us have our Rosaries at the camp, or if they'll chop off one finger so we can't count to ten. My big girl is a theology major and has her head on straight. I hope she'll become a voice in the wilderness someday like you and Aaron.
I don't know how we stop this from happening again. Mask wearing is a good example. I coach age group swimming (kids under 18) and our swim team was unable to rent at any of our regular facilities. When they allowed rentals, they forced us to wear masks. So the only way to support the swimming program and be allowed to rent at facilities was to comply with their orders. We had to have our kids start from opposite ends and maintain a 6 foot distance from each other in the water. For awhile, I wore a shield instead of a mask, but eventually they banned the shields. If I lowered my mask to give instructions, even though I was further away than 6 feet, I would get reprimanded by people running the facility. We had the same problem in the schools. We need to be prepared if this happens again to fight their mask mandates with actual science. We need a plan to target the decision making entities in our communities who blindly follow CDC guidance or come up with some kind of rival organization that has some authority to provide guidance.
So sad your reader Jerry B wonders if they will let he and his wife have their rosary at the camp....means they have already submitted to what they perceive as inevitable ....read Katherine Watt at Bailiwick News and know that this is not new communism but the system of US laws that have captured us........our submissive compliance was achieved through fear and a do nothing congress that has abandoned their role and us. ....we are doomed unless we unite against our government...Rhetoric, unfortunately, even enlightened rhetoric will not save us. Don't fall in love with your own thinking, broaden your knowledge base for a fuller understanding. In the end it will be action to change these laws that saves us. Educate your readers!!
