"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
The government, in passing funding bills for its agencies, and authorizing funding for third parties like CIS, has made laws to abridge the freedom of speech AND the press.
Note that the First Amendment does not mention "true," "accurate," "helpful," or "government approved" free speech. That's right, Americans have the right to make inaccurate, fanciful, tasteless, misleading, and even knowingly false assertions, including directives from gods or other supernatural beings.
