These remarks are much appreciated. It's interesting that Mr. Maier looks favorably at John Courtney Murray. I see the accommodation of Catholics to liberal society, coming alongside the upheaval in Catholic liturgy, as one of the reasons Catholics are unable to mount an effective counter to the ever advancing pagan utilitarian society. Why can't we all get along? was the bumper sticker of that time. Well, we can't because Our Lord said we can't.
The encouraging change in recent decades is the growth of Catholic families who are done with the 60's pabulum of their parents. They come filling the pews with children at the Latin Mass. They see the liberal experiment as a direct threat to their children, and they don't wait for bishops, priests, and high-thinking intellectuals to provide them a solution. "And from the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent bear it away." (Mt 11:12) It's that old no-compromise Catholic mind, and I love it.
Possibly the most egregious failing - rampant heresy aside - was the accommodation of mass murder of children in the womb in the 60's / 70's. How long would the born be safe from extermination once the most vulnerable are unsafe? Now we know.
We could have won because abortion was a dirty word and most all Catholics saw it as evil. So, why didn't bishops call for every parish to supply a hundred or so prayerful warriors to clog the streets and shut down the first outpatient killing center? But, but, what would John Courtney Murray say?
It does feel it's all slipping away..I notice we are negative most of the time to everything we see. Home is our sanctuary, was raised this way and it is the best haven.
We gotta fight. And we gotta ruffle some feathers. Here's my most important effort so far at fighting, a landmark essay that criticizes most conservatives, even ones who have published some aspects of Kheriaty's work, for actually helping to suppress the biggest Covid-related issues of our time. We need to be strategically assaulting the plague of Denial.
