"The characteristic feature of science is warranted uncertainty, which leads to intellectual humility.

The characteristic feature of scientism is unwarranted certainty, which leads to intellectual hubris."

This is an excellent essay Dr. Kheriarty. As an engineer I think I lean away from much philosophical thinking, usually finding it tiresome. You have made an interesting and thought provoking read with this one. I promise prayers for your continued enlightenment and courage.

Thank you, Nancy. I love the study of philosophy, but agree that it can be tedious to read. I'm very pleased to hear I was able to make it interesting and engaging here, for it's very important for us to understand the underlying philosophical principles and deep currents shaping our moment in history.

I believe a great many people my age have spent the last twenty years or so enthusiastically teaching atheistic materialism to young people, by teaching them that all human behavior can be explained by evolutionary biology. In short, they have taught kids that we are merely biological organisms, alive for a moment then gone forever, to be pushed and pulled by the more clever among us... We are livestock without souls, amenable to the techniques of animal husbandry developed by experts on our behalf. We live in a CAFO: a contained animal feeding operation. And then, these same people my age are shocked, shocked! to find young people enthusiastically rejecting free will, in themselves or in others, as needed to advance in society.

Yes, exactly. Our problems need to be addressed beginning in K - 12 education. And what we are seeing now, as you point out, Tamsin, is simply people living out the reductionistic philosophy of atheistic materialism consistently.

Wow! Brilliant. You’ve hit the nail on it’s head.

Scientism is now the new religion of blind belief.

With so many worshipping an unknown god, laying themselves and their children on the alter of sacrifice.

"The assertion that science is the only valid form of knowledge is itself a metaphysical claim." Spot on.

According to the accepted science, men are merely a random product evolved from dirt long ago. We are unable to to discern truth, and equally unable to communicate it. That is, each has his own reality which has no necessary correspondence to another's reality. But don't our betters suffer from the same deficit, all the while they impose their science on us?

How, then do we come to truth, how do we grasp reality? Even more, why do we value truth? The questions of the truth of our being, and how we know reality have been systematically purged over my lifetime, both in society and in the Church. It's no surprise that we have arrived at the scientistic-terrorist state.

Thanks, Doc. Keep the clear thinking coming.

This is brilliant! I've been studying 19th century philosophers. It's been astonishing to see the grandiosity of Marx's assertion that "communism is the riddle of history solved, and it knows itself to be this solution." He claims the classless society (having overturned all existing morals, religion, truths such as freedom, etc) is the scientifically proven endpoint of human history. How he could claim his theory as scientifically proven? But it certainly was a brilliant pathway to totalitarianism. Your point that the new techno society is worse than communism because at least communism had a hope attached to it is spot on...this techno-health society just has ubiquitous never-ending oppression.

Thank you for the encouraging feedback. What we saw in the 20th Century was the actual working out of the 19th Century philosophies of history, particularly Marx. Those ideas are now taken up by the affluent technocratic society.

In Alaska we are in the same circle of the Ninth Circuit Court system. Lame judgment period.
